This has only got one star because I have to give it something. In reality it gets zero from me. Nothing much wrong with the unit but I was miss sold it! Lookin Body Serial Number. ! When I bought this in 2010 I was told it included free 'lifetime' map updates. A few weeks after buying this I changed cars, the new car had built in sat nav so this device wasn't getting used. Iv'e just changed cars again this time no built in nav so I dug out the mio (I had kept it charged ) and thought i'll update the maps.
No chance because the makers have decided that it's lifetime has expired. So I'm either stuck with 6 year old maps, buy a new unit (it wont be from this bunch of lying b******s) or use google maps on my phone. I write this review as a warning to others. Do not believe promises of free lifetime maps. The folks at Mio are in hot pursuit of the answer to an age-old query: How crappy a product can we make and still get people to buy it?
My Mio came with the wrong cradle, so I had to balance it on my knee or put it on the passenger seat to use it. After weeks of calling and receiving a message that customer service was 'on holiday,' I spoke to a rep who told me to return it to the store, even though the labels on the box expressly discouraged customers from returning deficient products to the store and urged them to call Mio customer service instead. She told me the cradles for my model were back-ordered for several weeks. I put in an order, but months passed and I never received it. During the five or so months I used the Mio, it was slow to load, frequently couldn't locate well-established addresses (like my house), and finally gave out completely. When I again contacted the company, they suggested that either the battery was worn out (after only 5 months, when it was charging in my car?) or the device had experienced a software malfunction. They refused to repair or replace it and instead offered me a discount on another model!
Thanks Mio, what can I expect next? Craagle Download 2011 more.
